My name is Ian Henderson and I have over 30 years experience working in social work with children and families as a worker, manager and inspector.

I believe in radical solutions to problems; for too long, the voices of families, children and young people have not been heard. I am a passionate advocate for The Promise, and its aims of keeping families and communities together, and believe we need to do more to realise its objectives.

Services Available

Service Improvement

As a former care inspector, I will be able to support any service for children and young people to improve and get “inspection ready”, and provide a detailed report outlining strengths and suggested areas for development.

Independent Reports

I will carry out independent assessments such as parenting capacity assessments for Court or Hearings. I will always be guided by achieving the aims of the Promise and keeping children rooted in their families and communities where possible.

Social Work Consultation

If you are in need of support with a family or young person, I will work intensively with you and them to understand whats going on for them and reach better solutions. My approach will be to work alongside them , build a relationship and ensure their voice is heard.

I can provide training on a wide variety of topics, including :

About

I began my work as a social worker in Kilwinning in 1995, before working in Royston, Sighthill and Drumchapel in Glasgow, and then moving onto be a manager in Rutherglen and Clackmannanshire, either side of four years working as an inspector for the Care Inspectorate. Throughout my career, I have had an unwavering commitment to childrens’ rights and everyone who knows me says I am a strong advocate for children and young people. I have always challenged anyone who has not put the needs of children and young people first, and will continue to do that as an independent social worker. My guarantee to you is that I will always be honest, work with integrity and with compassion.
